The Department of Political Science at UBC has been successful in attracting both private and government support for endowed research chairs. These scholars have joined the department since 2000:

to hold the Harold and Dora Merilees Chair in the Study of Democracy
- Peter Dauvergne, from the University of Sydney, Australia
to hold a Canada Research Chair in Global Environmental politics
- Colin Campbell, from Georgetown University, USA
to hold a Canada Research Chair in U.S. Government and Politics
- Paul Quirk, from the University of Illinios, USA
to hold the Phil Lind Chair in U.S. Politics and Representation
- Michael Byers, from Duke University, USA
to hold a Canada Research Chair in Global Politics and International Law
