523A (3) Political Theory and the Politics of Identity

Instructor: Barbara Arneil

This course will examine contemporary political theory and the various ways in which Identity is theorized.  We will begin by considering new interpretations of the Western canon and the role that identity might play in the development of modern political theory.  We will look at feminist, multiculturalist, queer and post-colonial theories of citizenship and democracy, as well as those who have critiqued such approaches.
