Dr. Raul Pacheco-Vega (PhD,The University of British Columbia) is a Vancouver-based researcher, educator and consultant in environmental politics and policy. He has conducted research in the field of environmental public policy and politics for over 10 years. From January 2010 to February 2011, he was the Director for Western Canada of the Canadian Institute for Environmental Law and Policy (CIELAP), and their Lead Researcher, Water and Climate Change.
Dr. Pacheco-Vega has conducted independent research on wastewater governance, comparative environmental policy in North America, urban sustainability and environmental NGO mobilizations. He is a member of the Consultative Group for the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation (NACEC)’ North American Pollutant Release and Transfer Registry. He is on the editorial board of the international, peer-reviewed journal Water International and has served on various local and national committees on environmental issues in Mexico.
His main teaching interests include environmental politics, public policy, water governance, urban and economic geography and comparative and global environmental politics. His geographical area of expertise is North America (Canada, US, Mexico) and his methodological tools include quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as some expertise in geographical information systems (GIS). Dr. Pacheco-Vega’s research is broad and interdisciplinary in theoretical frameworks, empirical research methods and uses a policy-oriented approach to environmental problem-solving.

While Dr. Pacheco-Vega is currently not supervising graduate students at UBC, he has previously supervised undergraduate honors theses and graduate students at other universities worldwide on a variety of topics associated with cross-national environmental policy analysis.
